Service Area
Your service area defines where you operate and determines which jobs you're eligible to receive. When you set your business address, Trusted Bench uses it to match you with jobs within a reasonable distance—ensuring you don't waste time on leads that are too far away.
Getting your service area right is one of the most important steps in setting up your profile. It directly impacts how many job offers you receive and which opportunities show up in your queue.
Key Concepts
What Defines Your Service Area
Your service area is based on your business address—the physical location where you operate from. When you enter your address:
- Full address is stored securely for distance calculations
- Only city and state are shown publicly on your profile
- Coordinates (latitude/longitude) are captured for precise distance matching
This approach protects your privacy while enabling accurate job-to-pro matching.
Geographic Availability
Trusted Bench is currently available in Ohio only. When entering your address, the system will only accept addresses within this service region. As the platform expands, additional states will be added.
Maximum Service Distance
Jobs are matched to pros within 50 miles of the job location. This ensures:
- Reasonable travel times for on-site work
- Better client experience with faster response
- More profitable jobs for pros (less travel overhead)
Setting Up Your Service Area
During onboarding, Step 3 asks: "Where are you located?"
How to Enter Your Address
- Click on the address input field
- Start typing your business address
- Select the correct address from the Google Places suggestions
- The field will show a green border when a valid address is selected
The address input uses Google Places Autocomplete to ensure accuracy. Only addresses with complete street, city, state, and zip information are accepted.
Validation
If you select an address outside the current service region (Ohio), you'll see an error message and the address won't be saved. The system requires a valid in-region address to proceed with onboarding.
How Service Area Affects Job Routing
When a job comes in, your service area plays a critical role in whether you receive an offer.
Distance Filtering
During the job routing process, Trusted Bench:
- Captures the job location from the client's address
- Calculates the distance from each pro in the bench to the job
- Filters out any pros more than 50 miles away
- Routes the job only to pros within range
If your business address is 60 miles from a job, you won't receive an offer for that job—even if you're in the bench and have the right trade.
Distribution Strategy: Distance
If the job owner uses the Distance distribution strategy, eligible pros are sorted by proximity—nearest first. This means:
- Pros closer to the job receive offers before those farther away
- Faster response times for urgent jobs
- Natural prioritization for local pros
Other distribution strategies (Rating, Tenure, Even Distribution) still apply the 50-mile filter but sort pros differently.
Updating Your Service Area
You can update your business address anytime after onboarding.
How to Update
- Go to Settings in your dashboard sidebar
- Select the Profile tab
- Find the Business Address field
- Click the field and enter your new address
- Select the correct address from suggestions
Changes are saved automatically when you select a valid address. There's no save button to click—the update happens immediately.
When to Update
Update your service area when:
- You move your business to a new location
- You want to target a different geographic area
- Your original address was entered incorrectly
Keep in mind that changing your address affects which jobs you're eligible for. If you move farther from a client-dense area, you may see fewer job offers.
Best Practices
Use Your Actual Business Location
Enter the address where you actually operate from—not a random point in your preferred service area. Accurate addresses lead to:
- Realistic travel time estimates
- Better job matching
- Proper distance calculations for all jobs
Keep It Current
If your business moves, update your address promptly. An outdated address means:
- You might receive jobs too far from your new location
- You might miss jobs near your actual location
Understand the 50-Mile Limit
The 50-mile maximum is measured as a straight line (as the crow flies), not driving distance. In practice, a 50-mile radius typically means:
- 30-60 minute drive in rural areas
- Potentially longer in urban areas with traffic
Plan accordingly based on your local geography.

FAQ
Can I receive jobs outside the 50-mile radius?
No. The 50-mile limit is a hard cutoff. If a job is 51 miles away, you won't receive an offer through bench routing. However, marketplace leads show location information so you can assess distance before claiming.
What if I move my business?
Update your address in Settings > Profile. The change takes effect immediately for new job routing. Jobs already in progress aren't affected.
Why is the platform limited to Ohio?
Trusted Bench is launching in Ohio first to ensure a quality experience with focused support. Additional states will be added as the platform grows.
How is distance calculated?
Distance is calculated using the Haversine formula, which measures the shortest path between two points on Earth's surface. This is "as the crow flies" distance, not driving distance.
What if a job doesn't have a location?
If the client's job doesn't have valid coordinates, distance filtering is skipped. All trade-matching pros in the bench are considered regardless of location. This is rare—most jobs have location data from the client's address.
Does my full address appear anywhere?
No. Only your city and state are shown publicly on your profile. Your full address is stored securely and used only for distance calculations.
Can I set multiple service areas?
Currently, you can only set one business address. Your service area is automatically defined as a 50-mile radius from that address.
